Namgung Uk ( 1863-1939), a great man of thought on Korean independence at the time of Japanese ruling, and a journalist, had devoted most of his life as an educator.
He had taught at Hungwha and Baewha School, and established Hyunsan School on 1906 and Mogok School on 1919.
His educational purposes were to educate and nurture the young with modern studies based on Korean national spirit and Christian faith, so that they could lead independence of the nation from Japanese Government ruling.
His education encompassed the Korean language and Korean national history for the love of the nation,Foriegn languages and Sciences for facilition of modernization, and Music, Swimming, Hiking, Readings and Students personalities.
His educational methods were modernized, and based on Humanities.
Educational thoughts of Namgung,Uk was greatly appreciated by modern educators.
